What are shipping carrier surcharges?

Shipping service provider surcharges are additional fees or costs that may be charged by parcel services. These surcharges may apply for various services or special circumstances beyond the regular shipping costs. The carrier surcharges are independent of Shipcloud and whether an additional fee is charged is up to the carrier.

The shipping service providers charge additional fees for correcting addresses, manual sorting and exceeding the maximum permitted dimensions, among other things. As a rule, the shipping service providers weigh and measure the parcels in their parcel centers to ensure that they are sent in accordance with their regulations and at the correct rate and adjust the shipping costs if necessary. If the parcel specifications you provide do not match the actual dimensions and weight, the shipping costs of your shipment may change accordingly. Shipcloud reserves the right to pass on to you any surcharges levied by the shipping service provider.

The exact surcharges and their amount may vary depending on the shipping service provider. You can find an overview of possible surcharges on our detailed pages on the shipping service providers:

If you ship via your own contracts, the shipping service providers will invoice you directly for any surcharges incurred.

When and how does Shipcloud charge shipping service provider surcharges?

If you ship via the Shipcloud conditions, shipping service provider surcharges may apply, which are subsequently levied by the shipping service providers under certain circumstances. This may be the case, for example, if your parcels exceed the maximum parcel dimensions and weight limits of the shipping service providers and/or if you do not comply with certain shipping conditions. These additional costs will be invoiced to us by the shipping service providers retrospectively for your shipment and we will then pass them on to you. The time of the subsequent invoice may vary, as we receive the invoices from the shipping service providers at different times.

💡Good to know:

To avoid unnecessary surcharges, it is important to know the parcel dimensions and weights you enter or have entered when booking the shipping label. Possible surcharges are calculated based on your details.

How can I get an overview of the surcharges incurred or recalculations?

In the event that surcharges for your posted parcels have been levied by the shipping service providers, you have the option of viewing your recalculations in your Shipcloud account.
