Using the Shipcloud app for Shopify, you can generate shipping labels directly from your Shopify backend with just a few clicks.

In this article you will learn how to create shipping labels in Shopify with Shipcloud. If you haven't configured the Shipcloud app for Shopify yet, you can find helpful information about downloading and setting it up here.

In this article 👇

1. Edit orders and create shipping labels one by one

Log in to your Shopify backend and click on "Orders" in the menu bar on the left. You will now see an overview of all orders received.

If you want to edit an order manually and create the shipping label individually, click directly on the order number. This will open the detailed view of the order, through which you can perform different actions on the order. Click "More actions" in the top right corner and select "Get Shipping Label" from the dropdown menu next to the Shipcloud logo. This will redirect you to the Shipcloud app.

If you do not want to create a shipping label and only want to display the shipments already created for an order, select "Show Shipping Label" from the dropdown menu.

Good to know: You can only edit a Shopify order if it was placed less than 60 days ago. You can use the arrows right next to the "More actions" menu item to jump back and forth in the orders.

Shipping items

In the section "Artikel ausführen" ("Execute items") you can view all order items and, if necessary, change the number of articles.

Delivery address

In the section "Lieferadresse" ("Delivery address") you can make changes to the recipient's address.

Good to know: Make sure that the addresses have been entered correctly. In the ordering process, customers sometimes enter their address data in the wrong fields, which can lead to shipping problems.

Package size, description & reference

In the section "Paket" ("Package") you can enter information about the package dimensions in the field "Paketgröße" ("Package size") and about the package contents in the field "Paket-/Sendungsbeschreibung" ("Package/Shipment description"). If you have stored package templates in your configuration, these are available for selection here. Alternatively, you can also enter individual package dimensions and weights for the shipment. If you have entered general information about the package content and the reference in the fulfillment settings of your configuration, or if you have entered Liquid Vars for both, this information will be displayed in the corresponding field.

Good to know: Your default package template defined during configuration is preset as "Paketgröße" ("Package size").

Carrier, service & parcel type

In the section "Paketdienst und Service" ("Carrier and service"), select the desired carrier, service and parcel type. Check the box if you want to create a return shipping label directly.

Good to know: Your default carrier, service and parcel type defined during configuration is preset.

Shipment notifications

Check "E-Mail-Adresse des Kunden an Shipcloud übermitteln" ("Submit customer's email address to Shipcloud") if you want the package recipient to receive standardized automated notification e-mails about the shipment status.

Good to know: If you have already allowed the email address of your customers to be transmitted to Shipcloud for receiving tracking emails during the configuration, the checkmark is already set here and the email address of the package recipient is automatically displayed to you.

Customs declaration

Check the box "Zollerklärung generieren" ("Generate customs declaration") if you haven't configured that a customs declaration should be generated for all your shipments and now a customs declaration shall be generated for the shipment.

Good to know: The creation of a customs declaration (CN22 or CN23) is currently possible for DHL, Deutsche Post AG and Parcel.One.

As soon as you select the checkbox, an input mask opens. Enter all customs-relevant information about the package contents, the recipient and sender, as well as the delivery.

In the field "Inhaltsart" ("Content type"), specify the type of goods you are sending (trade goods, samples, documents, gift, return of goods). As a rule, trade goods are sent. However, you can also make changes if you want to send product samples, marketing materials or gifts, for example. These will be customs cleared differently.

In the field "Inhaltserläuterung" ("Explanation of contents"), provide precise information about the contents. This can be, for example, the indication of the product group. Since customer orders are often composed of different products, it is recommended to work with dynamic Liquid Vars.

In the section "Paketinhalt" ("Package Contents"), the order items of the shipment are listed. Here, if necessary, you can make changes to the shipping items or add additional items using the green button "Neuer Eintrag" ("New Entry").

Good to know: Once you have entered all the required information here, the customs declaration will be issued to you in PDF format together with the shipping label. The service of Shipcloud is only fully available for shipping from Germany. To be able to use Shipcloud with a sender address outside of Germany, you must have concluded a separate contract for the corresponding country with the respective carrier. You can also find more information here.

Additional services

If desired, select an additional service for your shipment here. Please note that you can only book the additional services shown in conjunction with your own contract with the respective carrier.

Good to know: If you book a specific additional service with a carrier that does not offer it or that is not integrated, you will receive an error message during the shipping label creation.

Provided that you have completely edited all settings for your shipping label, you can now determine the price for the shipment by clicking on the menu item "Weitere Aktionen" ("More actions") on the left and selecting "Preis berechnen" ("Calculate price") from the drop-down menu.

Lastly, click on the green button "Sendung erstellen" ("Create Shipment"). The window that opens will now show the shipping label you created. From there you can print or download it directly.

Good to know: If you have stored your carrier contract with Shipcloud, no (more) prices can be displayed for the respective carrier as our system does not have access to this part of your contract.

When you close the window, you will be redirected to the shipment overview of the order (under the menu item "Shipments"). There you have the option to call up the shipment again, create a return shipping label or delete the shipment.

Good to know: You can also view and access all your shipments under the menu item "Shipments" in your Shipcloud app.

Creating shipping labels via batch processing

If you want to create several shipping labels at the same time via batch or bulk processing, click on "Orders" in the menu bar on the left and select the corresponding orders or checkboxes to the left of the order number in the order overview. A tab view will now appear above your orders. Click on the tab "More actions" and select "Get Shipping Labels" from the drop-down menu. You will now be redirected to the Shipcloud app. On the page that opens, you can now make changes to the shipping details.

Shipment overview

First, you will see all the orders that you selected in the step before, in the order overview. This allows you to check once again whether you have included all the desired orders for batch processing. By removing the checkmark from the respective checkbox, you can exclude certain orders from batch processing again.

In addition, by selecting the "Create fulfillments" checkbox, you can specify whether the fulfillment status should update automatically when the shipping labels are created.

Package size, description & reference

In the section "Paket" ("Package"), you can choose between your stored package templates in the field "Paketgröße" ("Package size"). If you want to use a different (uniform) package size for all shipments, click on the green button "Anpassen" ("Customize"). If you want to use an alternative (uniform) specification or a different Liquid Var for package content and reference for all shipments in batch processing, you can adjust these in the respective fields.

Good to know: Your default package template(s) defined in the configuration is/are preset as "Paketgröße" ("Package size"). Also the generally valid specifications or Liquid Vars from your configuration are automatically applied to the respective shipment in the batch.

Carrier, service & parcel type

Select the desired carrier, service and parcel type for all shipments in batch processing.

Good to know: Your defaultcarrier, service and parcel type defined during configuration is preset.

Shipment notifications

Check the box if you want all batch shipment recipients to receive standardized shipment status notifications.

Good to know: If you have already allowed this in your configuration, the check mark

will be set automatically.

Additional services

If you want to book an additional service for the shipments from batch processing, click the corresponding checkbox. Please note that you can only book the displayed additional services in connection with your own contract with the respective carrier.

Good to know: If you book a specific additional service with a carrier that doesn't offer it or that is not integrated, you will receive an error message during the shipping label creation.

Provided you have made all the settings for the shipping labels to be created in batch processing, you can now calculate the price for the shipments by clicking on the menu item "Weitere Aktionen" ("More actions") on the left and selecting "Preis berechnen" ("Calculate price") from the drop-down menu.

Finally, click on the green button "Sendung erstellen" ("Create Shipment") at the top right. In the window that opens, you can now see how the shipping labels are created one after the other and listed in the batch processing overview (under the menu item "Stapelverarbeitung" ("Batch processing")). If a shipping label could not be generated, its status will be marked as "Fehlgeschlagen" ("Failed") and the corresponding error message will be displayed for you.

To view each shipping label individually in PDF format, click on the button with the eye icon or select the button with the down arrow to download it. If you click on "PDF anzeigen" ("View PDF") or "PDF herunterladen" ("Download PDF") at the bottom right, you can view all generated shipping labels at once or download them collectively.
